One would hope that, once this current situation comes to some kind of conclusion, this sort of activity which utilises uk citizens becomes the norm.

There are many ways of promoting it (such as providing a bonus for unemployed people who partake which doesn't have an adverse effect on their benefits). The farmer pays the state, which pays the workers...

Environmentally it makes sense not to ship in tens of thousands of people from abroad to carry out this work. Financially it makes sense not to have this money sent overseas, etc etc.

Such work should be mandatory for everybody claiming role if they are capable of doing it. I am a firm believer in the principle that those who will not work should not eat.

I'm a firm believer in the alternative, Todger. If you want to eat, work for it. I know, basically the same principle.

FWIW (which admittedly isn't much) the "won't work not eat" is from 2 Thessalonians in which Paul is giving them a bollocking for not bothering to work in the belief that Jebus would soon be making a return so why bother.

This could prove useful to know if anyone ever goes on The Chase.

Re: Picking vegetables

Hi

Unfortunately the unemployed who wish to remain unemployed do not like hard work and to fill all the vacancies they would have to relocate many.

We could make a start locally by forcing those who can work to do so.

Plenty of agricultural and food chain jobs still not filled locally.

Farmers seem able to arrange transport, food and lodgings for workers to come from overseas. Surely people on these shores could be transported even more easily?

Hi

That is not the issue, the issue is that many do not want to work.

It is hard physical labour with unsocial hours.

If we are to provide for ourselves things will have to change.

Guy cannot drive, he is Epileptic and his operation has been cancelled.

He cannot use his left arm.

He has nonetheless been accepted as a NHS Volunteer and is working from home.

Other, very fit individuals locally are not only not working but have not volunteered either.

Good for Guy.

Maybe it's time to redress the situation somehow. Not easy, but there's got to be a way
