Someone give me logical answers ...

I've pondered over these ponders many times over the years and never come up with a reasonable logical explanation. Perhaps someone could sort my ponderings out?

Outward opening front doors

Side opening porch doors

Spiral cases

Why do people have their front doors opening outwards, especially if there is ample room for an inward opening one? Got to be dicey - wrong type of caller and the homeowner is more exposed and at risk.

Side opening porch doors - why? Why not have them on the front side if it doesn't encroach on the path space too much? Must be a bugga to get furniture in and out if there's no turning circle in the porch. Assuming there are no patio doors in the property, cue 'taking windows out'?

Spiral staircases. I can appreciate lack of space for not having the usual style staircase, but furniture goes upstairs too. Presuming the furniture comes in one piece, how do they get a king size bed or large double wardrobe upstairs?

Outward opening front doors, a no no! For the reasons you give.
I love spiral staircases but can see your point, you need two staircases, one for fun & the normal type for furniture.
Side opening front porch door, we have one, it stops wind getting into the house, rain & snow also, because of where it's positioned. Never thought about getting furniture in through it, neither did late OH when he built it. Luckily it hasn't been a problem, so far. Most furniture was flat packed & the bed was the same. The men built it in-situ.

Same with shower doors that open outwards, when opened the water runs off onto the floor.

Re: Someone give me logical answers ...

I have never heard of outward opening front doors. Interesting concept.

As for getting large furniture into the house just remove a window, especially easy with aluminium windows. I have lived in a single story house most of my life so stairs are not a problem but I have had furniture that was too big for the doorway so the removalist just removed a window and replaced it afterwards.

My daughters shower has an outward opening shower door but it only drips onto tiles so it really isn't a problem, just squeegee it down the drain if it worries you.

Maybe the doors open outward in case of fire? Easier to get out of if you can push it open rather than pull it to open.

Judd, that sounds a reasonable logical explanation - fire doors do open outwards don't they?

Now I'm left thinking if that's the case why isn't it compulsory for everyone to have them
