Why is ERG looking for a deal??

I cant understand why lan Duncan Smith is threatening the EU with
No Deal, No money in an effort to obtain a deal with the EU?
I thought the ERG was in favour of the No Deal is better than a
Bad deal strategy?
What has changed? Just 8 months ago the ERG was comfortable
with the the No Deal scenario but they have been almost invisible
since Boris took over?
What is going on??

Re: Why is ERG looking for a deal??

In light of the the lack of response to the question l sked in this
thread, l will attempt to answer it myself?
Could it be that the ERG was created by the tories so that if ever
their fake support for brexit , as under Therese May got into
trouble and it looked like the brexit party would make inroads into
Tory support,as it did! then the ERG could stand as an alternative
to Theresa and thus keep the Tories in charge of things??
But, along came Boris and the general election, where Boris
bamboozled Nigel Farage into gifting him 50% of brexit voters
which resulted in Boris becoming the saviour of the tory party
by obtaining a landslide election win, but, at the cost of embracing
a proper brexit policy, deal or no deal?
Now things are heading for a no deal conclusion the real tory party
is getting restless again, but are stuck with Boris!who has made
countless promises to GET BREXIT DONE that he will find it difficult
to change direction now!
So now the ERG, who have in the past advocated for a hard brexit
in order to fool the electorate that tory=brexit now have to preach
the must have a deal mantra in opposition to Boris?
Could Boris be ditched before christmas along withEU exit???

Re: Why is ERG looking for a deal??

What IDS is trying to do is force the issue into the UK getting a good deal with the EU (based on what we have offered in our legal texts).

By threatening to pull the 39 Billion he is just reminding Brussels how much this will cost them if they don't start talking about trade.

No deal is better than a bad deal - but a good deal is also better than no deal

During the transition period the UK pays into the EU budget. By the end of transition amounting to £ 8.9 bn.
The remainder will be paid in decreasing yearly fractions, ending by 2055-60.. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk...ings/cbp-8039/

Nobody takes a threat to pull the amount seriously. No country in the world will perform any business with an unreliable partner. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-a9653966.html

DM is right. The realities of brexit are hitting home.

Our foreign investment says otherwise.

And the UK is deadly serious about pulling the 39 billion. Our prime minister has said it and so has David Frost.

Ha ha ha! Your prime minister is not serious about anything, except perhaps his wallet.

Re: Why is ERG looking for a deal??

Hi

The ERG is a hardcore Brexit Group.

IDS is one one those who pushed through the Withdrawal Agreement signed by Boris.

He voted against Parliament having more time to scrutinise it.

This is documented in Hansard.

He now wants it rewritten, which is not going to happen.

There is no £39Billion, a lot of it has already been paid.

David Frost, our chief negotiator, has recently said that we will only get around 60% of the Oven ready Deal Boris claimed he had.

What makes you think a good deal is in the offing Bread, when the
whole history of our relationship with EU has been one of
slow absorption by EU of anything that was worth anything to UK?
With Uk political assistance l might add!!
So l am suspicious of anything regarding a so called deal with EU?
I think it is unneccassary to have national "deal" at all, just let the
businesses involved agree terms individually on an ad--hoc basis
over time, why should the state have any say at all!!
So l agree a good deal is better than a no deal, but who decides if
it is good or bad? Our politicians dont have a good record in
negotiations in the recent past do they?
