Warning about Sanitiser

Any smokers here beware!
I read this in the paper:


" A cabbie suffered horrific burns by flicking a lighter moments after sanitising his hands.

Brian Hutchinson, 42, had flames engulf his hands, legs and head.
The dad of two found the lighter while cleaning his cab and wanted to check it worked - not realising flammable sanitiser was still on him.

He said: "The pain was horrendous. There was like a fireball inside the car that hit my face and went over my head."

Brian, from Newcastle, had major burns and underwent multiple ops after the accident.'

As sanitiser contains over 70% alcohol to be effective surely this is not a surprise merely another person entering themselves for a Darwin Award.

Arrr now I see what the thread is about.
I thought it said "Warning About Santiclaus" now I have my glass's on I can see its nothing about an old pervert dressed up in a red outfit with a white beard. Tut tut lost all interest now. Sorry Mups.

I would guess for as long as it is moist which is many seconds but that is a guess I am not intending to dry lighting it. The instructions seem to be keep rubbing it in until it is dry.

I had a bottle of hand sanitizer in my car during that hot weather my sister told me it could ignite due to alcohol content I now keep it in the house

Maybe it was still wet on his hands poor man

There are always idiots about disturbing the gene pool. He should have realised this would happen.

It is more than "maybe" Susan. I would say it definitely was still wet on his hands.

I think the gel sanitizers are better, they dry quicker. Tesco have those wet ones & they sting my hands. I take my own, but so far have not had a ciggy after using it. It's good advice. Thanks Mups for posting that.
