Perhaps a nice black highly tuned and nippy Abarth 500 for the blokes?

Re: Too old to drive?

I would be happy to take a driving test at 70 and I think it should be compulsory then every 5 years .

I do know I would have problems passing the theory test though . I did have a link to it once and kept doing an online theory test and really struggled with passing . I think they only allow 3 fails .

I must find the link and keep at it

Susan, I fear the same with the theory.

Here you go. Is this what you were looking for?

https://www.gov.uk/take-practice-theory-test

(The test has 50 questions, and you need to get 43 right to pass. You have 57 minutes to do it.)

I've stopped driving until I get my cataracts sorted.

Re: Too old to drive?

I think the problem with some older people is their concentration suffers and just one lapse of concentration can be catastrophic.

Some drive too slow as well, then when they get to where they have to stop and give way, they suddenly put their foot down and shoot across.

Refreshing your skills

A driving assessment with a qualified driving instructor will help you identify and address any driving problems you have and get you up to date with current laws. Book a test through the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The instructor will also be able to help you adapt your driving to keep you safe, such as
  • avoiding distractions to help keep your concentration on the road
  • allowing for slower reaction times
  • planning your route
  • driving defensively.
  • Better driving
That assessment costs £55 and lasts an hour. Four years ago, I had a free 3-hour assesment through my local county council. The assessor was a police-trained advanced driver. The assessment is usually age-dependent (60+,65+,70+) but it's well worth enquiring.

The assessment was called "Drive Safely for Longer".

Interesting I will give up as soon as I can.
I hate driving anyway.
But it is a necessity for me.
I have seen some sights were I live!
Many forget they have indicators!
Or, don't know left from right!
