Chlorine washing in the USA is not done because of unhygienic slaughtering, it is done for food safety reasons to reduce the risks of bacteria such as e-coli. As such the USA has up to 15-20% less infection rates because of chlorine washing.
Vietnam and the far east have some of the highest hygiene issues in the world - if they did chlorine wash, they would have much less risks to human consumption. However, if they did, they would have to allow cheaper USA chlorine washed chicken as well which would damage poultry production in the EU. That's the reason - nothing to do with hygiene, its a BS excuse to protect their own markets and keep prices high.
Wouldn't it be easier to just label the products accordingly and let the consumer decide ? After all, if the consumer won't eat it then there would be no demand wouldn't there ?
