Is that £150 k each child? £50k to pay back student loans and a good deposit on a house?
Does it include property?
Some parents may have inherited wealth Not all folk with money have worked for it.

But their families have worked for it Tess! I think it is right that we all pay tax on what we earn, but if you invest your earnings wisely is it fair that your children should have to pay tax on it again, when you die?

When I was a kid, the mantra was, "buy property as an investment so we will have something for a rainy day or our old age". Now when it comes to it some folk will do anything to get away with letting other taxpayers fund their care so they can leave it to their kids who won't have worked for it or even cared for their aged p's.
When the Baby Boomers die off, their offspring and grandchildren will inherit from those who "saved". They won't have earned it.
Those whose parent for some reason couldn't or wouldn't save will be worse off unless they earn their own money.
This country will be even more divided imo.

I have no doubt that some people try to make sure their parents money is left to them , rather that caring for their elderly parents.... but it is the governments job to make sure that doesn't happen.

My parent's mantra, when they bought their own house was " Lets move our kids to a better area ". They did & that certainly changed my living standards.
I don't have any prejudices towards those who couldn't, or wouldn't save for their children but I do object, that those who did, should then be taxed to provide for those who didn't!

Don't worry! While I still live and breathe, no-one's touching them! Or the original sash windows! And I don't care if they aren't energy efficient either!
(That's what thick curtains were invented for! )

The increase in people in my area, asking me if I have any spare change!
I am sure they come for the Summer.

I bought some French fries and 'sausage' roll things that all expire today, so I put them in the oven......which is bleeping to say they are ready..... but I don't feel at all hungry now.
