Gift Ideas

I have a friend who doesn't live near me. She has Parkinsons and is now in a wheelchair and pretty immobile. I desperately need suggestions for a birthday present later in October. I've asked her daughter but she hasn't got any ideas either.

Any helpful ideas would be great, thanks.

I am more than happy to help.
What are her interests?

Re: Gift Ideas

If she likes books how about an audio book of her taste in books. I guess she'd find it hard to hold a proper book. Flowers, most people love flowers or an indoor plant.

Re: Gift Ideas

Flowers are a bit predictable, but thanks for the suggestion. She's a special lady and I'd like something more expensive and a bit different. She does like reading, that was a good idea. I might contact the PD society, see if they can come up with something.

Re: Gift Ideas

If she is in a wheelchair perhaps she might like a pretty fleecy throw to put over her knees. My cousin, who had Parkinson's, found that she felt the cold and she loved pretty throws.

What about a Twiddlemuff or lap blanket? I am a member of a craft group which makes them for local nursing homes, but you can purchase them online. Just "google" Twiddlemuff.

Re: Gift Ideas

How about a heating pad?

Perhaps she isn't in any pain but they are a great comfort anyway.

An item of jewellery is always a lovely thing to receive
Perhaps a brooch in the shape of something that reminds you of times spent together?

Re: Gift Ideas

What about a digital photo frame? Obviously it would need someone to load all the pictures onto it for her.

Re: Gift Ideas

My mum had parkinson's
She ate very very well and never gained any weight
Would your friend appreciate a hamper I wonder?
You could even select its contents yourself and arrange them in a box or basket
