Every unnecessary expenditure must be curtailed. When it comes to so called asylum seekers most are bogus or failed terrorists. Moreover under the Dublin convention anyone seeking asylum from MUST apply in the first safe country that they enter and not schlep across a number of safe countries to reach the one with the best handouts, in other words the UK.

Then there's the shameful redistribution of earnings in the form of the bloated Benefits system. That REALLY needs cutting down.
So you'd take away pensions from people who are asset rich and cash poor? Because that's what means testing would do.

The cost of catching out bogus asylum seekers is prohibitive. It takes years to check whether they are telling the truth. Often the information cannot be traced because records aren't kept in the country of origin.

I agree that they shouldn't be coming here when there are safe countries nearby, but we never seem to have a way to stop this and once someone is here international law applies. I'm sure the EU will review this at some point in the future because most member states are no longer interested.

I don't think the benefit system is bloated these days. Give some examples. From what I have heard/seen (even here) the people that really need the money find it impossible to access anything. The cost of the administrative burden in doing things properly is again prohibitive. The departments that are meant to be doing checks and helping the right people are cut to the bone.

The systems we have in this country are going to grind to a halt the way things are going. I can't see how they can be cut further and redesigning them is hugely expensive. Again a gravy train for IT developer who booger off to drink champagne on a yacht when the weaknesses in whatever they have developed come to light.

There is a lazy attitude to fixing problems in the system. It's a bit ostrich and a bit "elephant in the room" and a lot of Alice in Wonderland where nobody actually know how all our systems work because they are like a patchwork quilt of complex layer up layer.

Re: Boris may cut stamp duty

Asset rich but cash poor is a paradox. What matters is EQUITY. If a person has equity in their assets but has the need for money then they have an absolute duty and a moral responsibility to liquidate some or all of those assets before being paid a penny of tax payers money.

Bogus asylum seekers? Simple. If they applied for asylum in the UK having passed through a safe nation en route then legally they are bogus. People in OUR country illegally should be deported and if unwilling to cooperate in their deportion then interned ideally in some overseas country until they do assist in their return to where they belong.

Nothing illegal in doing that and it really should be done.

Bloated Benefits system. Monetary support for those unable to cope should be limited to the needs of life, not the wants. Income support is an insult to tax payers. If people can't live the way that they want to live then get a second job or reduce their expectations to what they can afford.

Child care. Why should I be expect the money that I have to pay in tax be used to pay for other people's kids in nurseries?

Child Benefit. Again why should I have to subsidise other people's kids?

That just scratches the surface.

I don't "do" socialism in any and all forms. Apart from anything else it demotivates people.

look,I was born in a slum, I was raised in a slum, but my parents got out as soon as they could because they didn't want to just survive. Nor did I. I wanted more and was motivated by that want to go and get more. Where is the motivation for people being given so much on a plate to do the same.

What you are saying would demotivate anyone from bothering to aspire to have anything.

That's where the severe cull on Benefits come in. It will, note will, mean that the option of living in reasonable comfort based on what a person has done to cater for their future needs, or to live in penury will be the motivation.

It will happen. It has to.

There is no alternative.

Moreover it will be of huge benefit for the country as a whole.

The fact is that AI will change everything. So at some point in the future these discussions will be obsolete.

Indeed. It will make bringing sense to a chaotic welfare state by reducing the gross inefficiency.

A lot of people won't like it, but basically tough. They'll have to get used to living with what they can afford based on what they're given, not what they want.
