Its Ok to carry a Taser as a deterrent, and present should the situation arise, its the trigger pulling, and making an undiagnosed dicky ticker sufferer Breakdance, when, after analysis, there was no case to answer.

One day, you could be an unintentional Breakdancer, one is one too many.

Hard Labour.
Why is assaulting a hospital worker only one fifth as serious as assaulting a bloke that presumably is trained to defend himself? That is absurd. Assaulting any frontline public service worker should have the same penalty. Indeed you could argue that assaulting a paramedic is a far more serious an offence.

In my opinion 5 years is far too long anyway.

A lot of crimes are committed by drug addicts these days.Either high on them or desperate to buy some. They won't be thinking of their possible punishment at all.

Yes, but also handguns, seeing how crime is increasing exponentially in this country.

Every other police force in Europe does so - not just the Americans - and you don't hear of European police being prosecuted for incorrect discharges.

You and me both, the spell check is my online best friend. If I'm not sure of even that, I go to google. My daughter is worse, she is dyslexic.

I see your point but we employ our police to protect those workers that is why they should be protected by law more. Everyone else is protected by the police or should be that makes them a special case IMO
As for the sentences being too long they rarely serve a whole sentence most as only half that length as they are released at the half way mark or earlier.

I completely agree.

I cannot understand any practical reason for reducing sentence from what we had to what we have now.

The evidence to prove that was a stupid decision is plain for all to see.

I believe it was money JBR, keeping a person in prison is expensive and they won't build more prisons so something had to be done.

It's true, but it is also true that prisons are so expensive because they are more like five-star hotels these days.

Do-gooders will be up in arms to hear this, but I think our prisons should go back to Victorian basics: a cell, simple food and water and no other niceties. Certainly no TVs, Playstations, etc. Neither should there be any 'socialisation' or get-togethers. Their day should be filled with hard labour, meals and occasional rests in their individual cells.

As others have said, the prisons could be funded at least in part by the products of the prisoners' hard labour.

Prisons should be a punishment and a deterrent.

Serious repeat offenders should also receive corporal punishment; something to look forward to towards the end of their internment.
