Re: Get ready UK - here comes autumn - how lovely!
here's a little ditty O wrote a few years back now about 'autumn'
An Argo Contemplation
I woke to lashing rain
On autumnal window panes
The dawn had started breaking
And the grey clouds; weather vanes
The thought of venturing forth
Was furthest from my thoughts
The Argo stove was humming
Waiting boost from open draught
So I stumbled out and downwards
Felt the warmth from kitchen cloak
As I filled the empty kettle
And gave Argo extra coke
As I sat and supped my brew
I gazed into garden bare
Not a leave had stayed behind
To bring some autumn cheer
But the sparrows still hung 'round
Flew from trees to lintel roof
As they found their spring built nests
Built well and water proofed
As I supped my scalding coffee
With beans from Jamaican climes
I looked upon a hibernating
World stopped being kind
And soon the rain changed to sleet
As the kitchen warmer grew
This was no time for venturing out
Time for another brew
The radio sat there looking bare
Not a light of waves shone through
This was a day to contemplate
Not let the 'news' get through
So I sat and brewed another pot
Out of everything with life
So we batten down all hatches
Roar the fires even higher
Only venture out in daylight
With a lamp to quell the mire
And we trudge to give us movement
With our heads down to the wind
And the dog keeps closer to the heel
With its tail hung in a cringe
And we feel the icy particles
Like needles on the skin
And the eyes held close are watering
We can hardly see a thing
It seems to last for ever
Our memory can ne'er recall
The warm glow of a summer night
Or a soft spring rain-like fall
But we know the world is resting
And needs to sleep as well
Before the call of nature
Stirs her body back from hell
