Goat Silk Anyone?

The Goats with Spider Genes and Silk in their Milk
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/889951.stm

You can't farm enough silk from spiders to make it worthwhile but you can when you add spider DNA to a GOAT! The protein that creates the silk is then to be found in the goat milk.

The qualities of spider silk are incredible: many times stronger than steel for one thing!

The range of uses for this silk are wide reaching, especially so with regard to medical applications. Of course the driving force behind the research will be money from the military I bet as it could be used as a cheap alternative to Kevlar.

Creepy but impressive.

Yes amazing, I saw a program on TV about the spider goats, who knows what they'll mix what with next. Remember the old jokes we told at school "What do you get if you cross a Sheep with a Kangaroo?"etc,.... well they are reality now.

In my experience four legged goats are almost capable of that!

If you only need one protein you can grow it in a bacteria these days. That is how Insulin is now made and a different stuff I inject myself with. We will be able to do away with cows to make milk in 100 years?
