Fearful deer herd

Just heard on the late news, that a Northamptonshire farmer is worried about big airshow display due here this weekend.
He is a deer farmer, and when the jets did their airshow in 2012, it killed 18 of his deer herd.
They were so frightened, they panicked and stampeded and 15 died in the stampede, and another three babies had to be shot as well - one had broken both its front legs, one had broken its neck and another was so badly caught up in fencing it had to be shot.

These events are enjoyed by many, and no doubt money is involved, but I feel so very sorry for the animals, the livestock, and wildlife who do not benefit one iota from our human entertainment, nor make money from it, and just die in fear and pain. They haven't got a clue what is about to happen this weekend yet.
This farmer is dreading it.

Re: Fearful deer herd

I use to fear for the Cattle and Horse's in the fields at Bonfire night , they did get frightened so it must be ten times worse when planes keep flying over . I would have thought he had made some arrangements since the last show .
Like transfer them to another farm away from the noise .

Maybe if they've all got youngsters that is easier said than done Eliza, dunno. I suppose the jets will be heard for miles anyway. I shall probably hear/see them too, as I am in Northants as well.
I agree with you entirely about bonfire night and the livestock too.

That's awful , deer are lovely such a shame .
I don't think you can transfer deer they are so nervous .
I think they are even slaughtered on the farms where they are reared as they can't be transported .
In the case of a farmer buying them in I think they would arrive heavily sedated .
