Are you a member of your local library? They often have language courses on CDs for hire.

Have just bethunk meself - Lidl sometimes have language courses for sale - I bought one a few months ago (must have been in the right place at the right time ), it came with four CDs and a course book so that you could read the lessons at the same time as listening to them.

May be an idea to keep an eye out for any in future.

They also email you a progress report every week and you can use that email to go to their site (posted by Ray C) and learn even more.
I use duolingo for German. I find it pretty good

I almost clicked to buy but I'm worrying about paying over the net. Are these sites that have a lock at the side of the web address really secure?

Should I or shouldn't I.
Always use PayPal or a credit card.

ALWAYS.

Apropos Internet buying

While this makes life easier, and you can return goods trouble
free, often with postage paid, why do Stores and Fashion Shops post their garments squashed up in miniscule plastic bags?
One could damage the garment trying to open the parcel with scissors.
Surely they can afford a larger plastic bag.

On the other hand why does Amazon send out a tiny article in a very large cardboard box?

Who knows?

In the case of Amazon et sim it saves money to have a reduced number of box variants.

In the case of thin and small plastic bags for clothing it reduces costs of storage. Increasingly plastic bags have small holes in them in order for them to be placed in a big container which is then evacuated so that voids are avoided.

Re: buying over the internet

I rarely buy over the net, preferring to see the goods in the shops. However I did buy a used, refurbished camera lens from www.mpb.com, it arrived yesterday, I couldn't find it elsewhere.

A thing like a language course might be difficult to find in the shops. In and around Charing Cross Road is/was the first place I'd look, but I don't know. Many long-established specialist shops do still exist in London, but fading away slowly.

I wouldn't buy shoes online or clothing l like to try on before purchasing.
Or larger household items unless first seen in store .

False economy in my opinion.

Multi £million Companies like Amazon UK can afford to waste money while paying little UK Tax

If I and many others, received a New Garment squashed up in a mini bin liner looking as though it had been slept in all night, we would not but other garments from that supplier.

It is fine to use plastic bags for small items like socks and underwear ,but not for expensive garments, such as expensive Coats, Jackets or Dresses.
