I see where you are going to with this Graham and in some ways I agree, but my feelings are that its only the rich buggers that ever really benefit from these things.

I have no problem with rich people wasting their own money on these ventures like Richard Branson for instance.
But when it is taxpayers money they are gambling with well that is another story.

Utter nonsense! We're not talking about 'Space tourism' of having a house on the moon! We're talking about the technology, some of which will end up in domestic appliances, cars, computers, TV's, mobile phones etc...

And while some people moan about the government investing around £240 million a year in ESA, nobody seems to complain about the £Billions that results from the UK space industry.
Nor for that matter, do many people seem to complain about the estimated £8.4 billion (at retail cost) spent anually in the UK on cosmetics!

Perhaps some value personal vanity above knowledge.

How dare you suggest I spit my dummy out.
Don't get it mixed with good old fashioned straight speaking. I have never been one to pussy foot about.
By the way I copied and pasted that piece it was far to intellectual for me to think of.

Re: Space Probe

I just hope they can fix all the hiccups with the probe and find out some more facts about the how's and why's about our universe.
Not sure what the chances are. I seem to remember someone saying 'bring me a rock from the moon and I will tell you all about it'.

They did and the results came back.

"IT'S A FRIGGIN ROCK"..

They also learnt that the moon wasn't cheese after all.
"Now that was a bummer" was kind of hoping to stop off there and have a cheese and onion sandwich on the way to heaven, and a chat with the Clangers.
