Re: Queens Fund

This bloody Government have done it yet again!!! Not content with screwing every last drop of blood from us, they award Mrs Windsor a huge pay rise. I still say its time to do away this family like the French, Russians, Italians, Greeks, Romanians, and Austrians have done before us and have an ELECTED President.

Dear Geoff

You've probably seen in the news today that the royal household is to receive an extra £6m of taxpayers' cash this year.

Why? Because a new system for funding the monarchy has come into force – a gold-plated deal that gives the royals 15% of the profits from the Crown Estate.

(Don't be fooled by the name – the Crown Estate belongs to us, the British people, not the Windsor family.)

This annual payment – called the 'sovereign support grant' – has been set at £36m this year. And don't forget that this official figure excludes lots of hidden expenditure – the real cost of the monarchy is more than £200m.

As a result, the Queen has been given a bumper payrise – just as the rest of country faces more cuts and economic uncertainty.

Whatever you think of the government's cuts and welfare reforms, it can't be right that one of Britain's wealthiest families is handed millions of pounds that could be spent on public services.

The royal grant must be reviewed
The size of the sovereign support grant has to be formally approved each year by the royal trustees - that's George Osborne, David Cameron and Alan Reid, the Queen's accountant.

We're calling on the chancellor to convene an emergency meeting of the royal trustees to review the size of this year's payment in light of Britain's tough economic conditions.

Re: Queens Fund

I think the Royal family do a good job, but isn't it about time that with the U K in such financial trouble and looking to everyone to cough up more, that the administrators of the Royal Money, which in actual fact belongs to the country
, sorted out how, they the Royals could help the U K economy with its financial problems. They Royals are getting
£220,000,000 on top of the money they receive from the state. Now that money does NOT pay for any Royal Duties or Royal staff, that all comes from the state. I'm sure £110,000,000 would go a long way to paying for child benefit or even balancing the extra bedroom tax.
There seems to be many people that are happy with the situation, so it appears to me that the U K has not got the financial problems that we keep hearing About.
I do not blame the Royals for not suggesting that more of their income could be used for the good of the country, they are only like most people, if not asked for it they will not freely give it.

Re: Queens Fund

The trouble is while I support the Royals I would resist heavily the idea the money go to child benefit, have children pay for them yourself I am afraid.

They will never make us all happy with how they spend the cash. All we can do is elect the party who says they will near enough do what we want. Hence I vote for parties I know will honour the Royals in the way I want them to. Just find a party that wants to throw cash at kids and vote for that if you want changes.

Re: Queens Fund

The Queen works harder than anyone in this country I reckon. She is ALWAYS on duty, in the public eye, and will see her job through to the death. I reckon if any of her detractors were to do her job for a day they would be screaming for mercy!

You are wrong, not everyone.

Despite paying more tax now than we did when I was working we am still managing to save/spend more than we did before. We have not noticed the so called recession if there is one.
Like Paul says, it is only numbers on a piece of paper.

I love the Royals and would willing pay more to support them and what they do for the country.

Re: Queens Fund

I find some of these post incredible, , the Queen!! gets £85,000,000. from the state, also has an income from property of £220,000,000. she will not pay tax on the £85,000,000 that comes from the state, so she pays tax only on the £220.000.000 less any expenses that are incurred in maintaining the properties, so why should they not be asked to contribute a little to the country in the way of finance, but as Antibrown says, or appears to say, that the U K population is a lot better of than they make out, so most of the crying over being poor and hard done by is just a load of rubbish. The Royals do no more for the U k than my Brother In Law, and he has two Autistic children to support, and does not get any hand outs from the state.

Re: Queens Fund

I could be down to my last pennies and still not begrudge anyone else their fortune. The Queen has a job I would imagine most of us would fail at the first post doing. She is an elderly lady still working harder than many in this country.
Will most likely work until she dies. She does her duty by the country and is very much restricted in her private life by that.

From all accounts coming from the palace she lives personally fairly frugally.

We are lucky she costs us so little some countries are very poor because their monarch or leader takes all the money, she takes very little in the scheme of things.

Re: Queens Fund

I wonder then what happens to the money if she lives so poorly, open your eyes, she doesnt live poorly. She is a great lady and is a good Ambassador for the U K, but with that amount of DISCLOSED income, they and the people that administer the expenditure could if they so wanted manage on considerably less and she would still have a very comfortable life. I dont want to see her in rags, but by all accounts the U k could do with more cash, so if you are all supposed to be pulling together, lets have a little bit of pull from from them, or as i said before are you all just crying about cuts and cuts just to make the world think you are suffering.

Re: Queens Fund

Personally I am very gratified to think that so many people are willing to pay to keep the Queen of Australia in the style to which she has grown accustomed.

Well done all of you.
