I wouldn't wish it on them tbh.

Dose yourself up with all the available medicines and it will last about seven days.
Just leave it to run it's course and it will last about a week

Re: 36 hours in bed

Taking any form of paracetamol or ibuprofen is a major mistake imho. Something I have explained a few times in other threads. Those ingredients will force your fever/temperature down and that will result in the virus/bugs being free to replicate totally uncontrolled. Your body will be overrun with them in no time and will likely result in a cold/ILI turning into a deep respiratory infection which can last weeks and be potentially very serious.

Over the counter potions and pills will serve only to prolong your illness.

Allow your body to generate it's fever and sweat it out, it's a prime defence mechanism.

Blitz up a real lemon, the whole thing, pith, peel, juice (remove the pips beforehand). Add a good chunk of fresh ginger and some hot water and blitz it all up. You'll get a milky lemony liquid. Use it like orange squash concentrate.

A little in a mug, topped up with hot water and a teaspoon of honey for sweetness and its antibacterial qualities will give your body a good boost. Put the rest of the liquid in the fridge. It will last days.
