Exactly Missy and the back stop only comes into force anyway if a trade deal can't be negotiated within the 21 month transition period which begs the question has the EU so little faith in being able to negotiate a deal in that time that it needs an insurance in the form of a backstop.

As we already 'trade' with the EU, reaching an agreement in 21 months really should not be that difficult.
It is all 'waffle' designed to demonstrate to anyone who dares to contemplate leaving the EU that leaving will be made as difficult as possible.

The last deal negotiated between representatives of EU and UK took two years. The parliament didn't back up their representative, but now send her back to open the deal and renegotiate. And to think this severance deal was relatively simpel because it is based on existing committments and amounts of money owed.
Of course the EU has little faith in the UK to be able to sign of a trade deal within 21 months.

I'd look forward to a proper border between Eire and the UK.

It would call a halt to all the pikeys coming over every summer to steal and pillage.

Encourage them to go to New Zealand instead!

Won't happen of course.
I said the same not long ago. It would be a workable solution.

Oh no. They'd do what they do best: fight the republicans... and probably each other!

An united Ireland and a united Kingdom, coexisting peacefully side by side. What could be more beautiful?
