Even shooting someone in the legs with a gun can result in death as happened a couple of days ago.

Absolutely in favour of all police carrying a taser as well as a gun.

Hi

No No and more.

Tasers are not effective against the pillocks.

We are trained to resist them, no great shakes, dispersal clothing freely available on line.

They do not stop Suicide Bombers.

There is only one way to stop Suicide Bombers.

A bullet to the head and to the wrists to stop any pressing of buttons.

Sometimes we get it wrong, we have to live with that.

If, like Muddy, you criticise and complain about Mendezes, live with it and do not complain about casualties here.

We have very limited Resources now here in the UK.

We have been savaged, pay and pensions alike.

They now want us back, but are paying Naff All and what they do pay affects our Pensions.

Boris is quite happy paying £135 an hour to the Private Sector.

He will not pay £35 an hour to Ex Staff.

We can earn 18 hours a week in the Private Sector without affecting our Pensions,

No guesses as to what will happen, and you are paying for it

Definitely in this day and age. Many people have no respect for police and 5yey need to be able to protect themselves. If you had asked guns my answer would have been definitely not.

Sadly the time is not so far away when all police officers will be carrying guns.

It's a route we have resisted for so long but alas it's a route we have to take. Its not fair to ask people to enforce the law in the present climate without any means of protecting themselves....so yes they should all have tasers.

I think we should increase armed response vehicles too.

Quite agree with you. First off many years' ago it was the wooden truncheon, then came the metal expanding baton. That was supplemented by CS gas / pepper spray canisters. Meanwhile in addition, specialist armed response vehicles were being used (ARVs). This was followed by issue of Tasers to specially trained police officers. Now there are various areas issuing more officers with Tasers. Eventually it will be arming all police officers.

If this is going to escalate to that point anyway, and I believe it will, why not do something now? Be one step ahead of the 'no-goods' we now have in this country instead of always being one step behind. In my opinion the escalating level of violence in this country needs to be stopped now, not wait for that to worsen with more lives, both police and members of the public, lost as a result!

Re: Should UK police officers be routinely carrying Tasers?

I saw 5 police battling with an out of control idiot off his head along the esplanade in our small town families and little ones passing with their buckets and spades . The thug foul foul language as he squirmed on the floor kicking yelling spitting , the police were marvelous doing their best to shut him up to stop his spitting and disgusting ways . Eventually trousers hanging down his legs he was handcuffed and forced in the police van.

He should have been tasered instantly

Yes they should have this protection

Re: Should UK police officers be routinely carrying Tasers?

Hi

So surprised by some of my favourite posters..

Tasers are not the answer, they work on low level crime, not the serious Terrorists.

Been there, done that, it hurts, does not stop them pressing the button.

Useful in suppressing idiots, absolutely no use in stopping Terrorists.

Tempting to put a bullet in each wrist to stop them pushing the trigger.

Such is life, head shots first, you take no chances.

Muddy can complain all she wants.

It was a good call.

Tasers? They should be carrying high calibre handguns too. I'm totally opposed to capital punishment but strongly in favour of the men and women who are our protection from criminals being able to do whatever is needed to protect themselves when facing what they have to face.
