Just Clowning Around?

The 'Northampton clown' who shot to fame for spooking residents of the quiet town has appeared on video - emerging from a lake.

The sinister-looking jester was mysteriously pictured around the East Midlands town sporting full make-up and a frizzy red wig last week.

He has amassed a worldwide following after being spotted across Northampton waving at passers-by, carrying a teddy bear and even a bunch of colourful balloons.

So far, the clown - who bears an uncanny resemblance to movie monster Pennywise from Stephen King's 'It' - has only been snapped by spooked residents.

But video footage of the prankster has now emerged for the first time since his debut appearance on Friday 13th this month.

The 30-second clip shows the creepy clown standing in the water at Abington Park as he waves for the camera clutching a balloon.

Diarmuid Michael Cholmain wrote on the page: 'That scared the s**t outta me!' while Lisa von Matterhorn simply declared: 'Creepy'.

However, other residents have welcomed the mysterious sightings of the clown and have since labelled him a local legend.

Jason Wilde put: 'Keep up the fine work. You are an awesome distraction in this too serious world.'

Stuart Burt added: 'Putting Northampton well and truly on the map #legend.'

Other fans from further afield also posted messages of support with Holly Payne adding: 'Sending so much love from Hollywood! You have a HUGE fan base here! Beep Beep!'

Last week it emerged that people had travelled from as far away as the United States in search of the clown- who has gained 170,000 followers on his Facebook page.

How would you feel seeing this clown wandering around your town? I find them seriously creepy and especially the one in the link of the man concerned (WARNING: clown phobics should not view the link!).

He seems to have gathered quite a following worldwide - just a bit of harmless fun that brightens a dull day or something that could cause fear in others

You decide!

Can't say he would scare me but I have no idea what the film was about having never seen it, I don't have a problem with clowns either but I know some people do.

TBH I wonder what his state of mind is that he does this, all sounds a little odd to me.

Re: Just Clowning Around?

When I lived in Mansfield Woodhouse there was a chap opposite me who used to dress up as a clown and go into Mansfield market place and collect money for charity. There was a very mixed reaction to him but, over the years, he raised a lot of money for charity and had even appeared on the Esther Ranson show who paid tribute to his charity work. Of course, the local council eventually put a stop to it claiming that it was against council policy to allow unlicensed charity collectors.

Someone should lock him up! I don't like 'em! If I came face to face with it, I'd have serious nightmares!

Re: Just Clowning Around?

I suspect he's quite harmless and just thought he'd try and bring a smile to people in these miserable times.
The only time he would bother me is if he popped up in front of me on a dark night, or was loitering about in alleyways etc, but if he is in public places in broad daylight I suspect he/she is probably perfectly harmless and now enjoying the publicity it has aroused.
