Suggestions for shady veg patch

I have been struggling with my vegetable patch and greenhouse for the last few years, I used to grow quite a bit before our three very large beech trees grew so much, one of which is now overhanging the greenhouse and putting the veg patch in partial shade, it backs onto forestry commission so there are trees around the boundary too!

I have pretty much given up this year but ever the optimist am thinking ahead for next year. I am even considering just trying fruit bushes next year which I haven't tried before. We are on chalk and flint but the veg patch has a good depth of soil when cultivated.

Chard, spinach, lettuce Jerusalem artichokes, cucumbers, parsley, endive, peas, mizuna greens, sorrel gooseberries, rhubarb, raspberries and redcurrants can all be productive in partial shade. Go for early croppers before the tree canopy gets too dense.

I'm no gardener either Azz!

Some good suggestions though, I will go away and think about them.

Thank you!

Good suggestions too, especially the suggestion of getting crops out early before the trees make too much shade
