Pieris Forest Flame

I was at Mum's a couple of weeks ago and suprised to see red shoots on her Pieris. We talked about it and both thought it was unusual - they are usually red in spring, when you worry about the frosts catching the tender shoots.
Now my own Pieris is a blaze of red

So - have I forgotten that these plants send out new shoots twice a year, or is this unusual?

Re: Pieris Forest Flame

There are no red shoots on mine....yet! There are still some clumps of the small bell-shaped flowers on it though.

As far as I can remember, mine has only ever been red in springtime...

Re: Pieris Forest Flame

I had one up till this year when we have had a sort out and as we are getting rid of all the pots too much time watering and having to rely on the daughter who lives 20 miles away now to come and water when we are on holiday but ours only sent the new red growth up once a year it would flower late autumn and then in the spring we would cut off the flowers and it would send up the new red growth occasionlly you would have the odd piece of new growth late on but not as much as yours it must be very happy with it's lot...

Re: Pieris Forest Flame

I have a Pieris plant in the front and back garden-both of mine look like Dinahsmum's picture with red shoots on. Didn't think it was unusual-but then I don't know a great deal about plants
