Re: Rain's arrived.

Once again it's been raining all night and still continues. It hardly seems possible that we will ever run out of water, as some appear to believe, does it!

Is that under the 'Thunderstorm' heading and the term is 0 J/kg? I don't know what that abbreviation means but note the number is higher in areas of heavier rain. Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable about the weather might know.

I usually go to the site using https://www.ventusky.com. This shows temperature by default but then you can go to 'Precipitation' and other weather aspects. Also choose between an hourly or 3 hourly prediction. It was quite handy for my cycle ride days.

I linked straight into the rain heading because of the thread topic.

Edit: Wikipedia knows everything.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convec...tential_energy

From the article:
CAPE exists within the conditionally unstable layer of the troposphere, the free convective layer (FCL), where an ascending air parcel is warmer than the ambient air. CAPE is measured in joules per kilogram of air (J/kg). Any value greater than 0 J/kg indicates instability and an increasing possibility of thunderstorms and hail. Generic CAPE is calculated by integrating vertically the local buoyancy of a parcel from the level of free convection (LFC) to the equilibrium level (EL):
Now we know.

Re: Rain's arrived.

That's an excellent app, which I have downloaded on to my phone. Thanks.

Last night we looked on the BBC Weather app, which assured us that we would have rain all day and thunderstorms this morning and again later this afternoon.

I'm sitting here looking out on our garden seeing bright sunshine and clear blue skies!

Re: Rain's arrived.

We had a thunderstorm with torrential rain about 5am, it is sunny at present and I have got the washing out, but we are supposed to have more storms later on.

Re: Rain's arrived.

It's been raining, yes, it's windy, yes, but neither are as bad as they said they would be. Sun is out now too.
Lots of activities have been cancelled in Devon & Cornwall because of the weather forecasts.
I am wondering if they needed to be.
Anyone have worse weather in the South West?
