Music Editing Software

Can anyone recommend any free music editing software?

I've used Audacity in the past - on an old Windows XP Desktop and got on with it quite well, but wondering how well it will work on Windows 8.1 or is there something better?

If it has to be free then you best stick with Audacity because you will find there is still nothing out there that beats it. Only paid for editors beat it.

Audacity is available for all versions of Windows from Vista on, they only recently dropped support for XP.

Thanks for the advice. Audacity was good in the past, so hope I can use it fairly easily again.
