It was like that on my last forum, which was a very long time ago. Most of those just wore their 'friends' list as a badge and thought they were popular because they had a huge list.

I can understand when a forum first opens and folk know others from way back ie from another forum or have a friendship history in real life - but these 'join then click people', who add 'friends' willy nilly are as bad as those who accept them. It's so false.

I never listed friends on there and don't do it here, p'raps that makes me unfriendly
I dont think it makes you unfriendly at all Pesta...in fact ive just cleared out my entire friends list so dont worry if anyone sees ive deleted them its certainly not personal ,just that I want a clean slate and it doesnt stop me from pming anyone at all ...

Re: Do you have many "Over 50's Forum" friends?

When the site first started and we had just a handful of members I think the friends option helped to make new people feel welcome.
I was never really liked the idea and eventually stopped accepting friend requests .

It is a mystery to me why new members have friends for the simple fact is rules do not allow them to speak to each other for three months. Not very friendly is it for new faces, who soon buzz off to where they feel they are wanted.

If a person requests your friendship, Why not? It's not hurting anyone, it's just a nice friendly gesture!
Of course, it's best not to befriend any Tom, Dick or Harry but l think l'm old enough and ugly enough to be able to recognise the scammers!
I agree with Arty.

Join the club Val.
Join the club.
Around half of mine never post now along with goodness knows how many others on the members list.
I hardly know any of them.
Why do they leave like that?
I have theories about it but best not say, otherwise I might be another member in The Forum Trash Can, and possibly recycled to Facebook or something even worse.!

In the main....forum friends are merely fair weather friends, real, loyal, friends are a rarity in cyberspace
