Re: Time for ID cards?

I agree that they are needed but I think they should keep it simple rather than getting sidetracked. I'm sure there are loads of individuals with pound signs in their eyes influencing this to be far more complex than necessary. The quest for self-interested profit over efficacy sinks many a public project.

The key is to get out while you can, because most people won't bother and will just end up paying. It's just such a palaver to change these things.

Driving licences have become our defacto form of ID and are worth 100 ID points (same as a passport).

The only problem with them is that they are issued by the states not the Federal Government but they are accepted as photo ID everywhere.

If you are concerned about non drivers - never fear the same body that issues driving licence will provide you with a NSW Photo ID (presumably the same in all states)

Like most ideas, sound great at the outset until looked into in greater depth and the consequences. Forgeries would be rife and just think of the time waste deciding if an ID card was genuine or not
Nonsense! just hasn't happened. Almost impossible to forge due to security laser patterns on the surface similar to banknotes. Your driving licence number stays with you for life (unless you move interstate).

Re: Time for ID cards?

Hi

All ID Cards are forgeable.

Document Verification Training takes a very long time.

A good forgery costs money, a lot of money.

A perfectly acceptable ID Card costs around £25 per unit when done in bulk.

Here in the UK they overpriced them and insisted the public should pay.

This was because certain high level Politicians were opposed to them.

This was against professional advice that giving them away free would save Government money.

Such is life.

What IS coming down the pipe isn't really an ID card, it's an electronic key to access a central data base. Forgeable? No. Copying probably but what's the point?

Verification? What's to verify? When the card is put into a card reader the database churns out what is stored on the database. THAT is what needs to be accessable. The physical card is trivial, just like a bank card, it's what it gives access to.

Hi

Fair Comment

The World Experts in creating False IDs and also detecting them, are Mossad.
