Re: China's ambassador to the UK gives Britain a lecture on "Friendship"

Penny Wong, the opposition leader in the Senate has written an essay titled The End of Orthodoxy for the Australian Foreign Affairs journal.

The Covid-19 catastrophe has “reinforced a macho strain of nationalism” while fuelling damaging levels of “mistrust” between countries, and Australia cannot afford to stand by as the pandemic speeds up threats to the world order.

She also warns that nationalism, xenophobia and extremism are on the rise around the world – and Australia’s collective responses to current challenges need to emphasise unity and leaders must not forget the lessons of the 1930s.

Talks cheap but it takes money to buy a field. China is now invincible. No doubt America will take China on, such is the nature of the beast, but they won't indeed can't win.

It's been the same throughout history. Great nations emerge, thrive, lose the plot, go to war, and get destroyed.

But it always takes a war.

Here this bloke is waving the finger and giving "stern" warnings of "consequences" if the UK upsets China. They are doing the same thing to us right now as well. And our prime minister Scott Morrison is telling them - politely - where they can shove their warnings. Australia is getting together a strategy to allow these people to come here too. Focus is also shifting from relying on the US as our only strategic partner in the South Pacific due to Trump's determination to tear the US apart. I understand there is a lot of movement from our government to cement strategic ties with many other countries in the South East Asian region as a possible buffer against Chinese aggression. Morrison has announced another $A250 billion in defence spending. Shoudn't be too hard to deter China. Their huge army only gets used to kill their own people and they steal most of their tech from the West. Can't rely on the US anymore. HOpe it's worth it. So, I hope Boris and his crew tell this pompous little dweeb where he can shove his waving finger. Made my bloody blood boil. I'm not underestimating China for a second. They are very powerful. But they are committing a fatal error. They are underestimating the rest of the world. They are talking and blustering their way into a corner. THey are certainly underestimating Australia's resolve to stand up to them. Maybe this time the US will just be just "tagging along" instead of leading. Time for us to stand form against this arrogant and bullying totalitarian regime. With or without the USA. YOur opinions and thoughts are invited. All comers welcome

..and good on you Sco Mo. I expect Boris is saying the same. The West is now showing clear signs we will no longer countenance Chinese Commie belligerence.

If as many countries as possible shun them they will see that is not the case.

The UK needs to boot them out of our telecommunications system and power generation, they shouldn't have been allowed in there to begin with.
After firstly inviting the Chinese Commies to build your 5G network you Brits have now locked them out as we in Australia have already done. The Yanks and India have also done so. Oz has now banned TikTok social media app while India is banning some 20 additional Commie apps. Australia is now eyeing off India and several Asian allies as new export markets should China dump us as trade partners. Beijing and Jinping will realise it needs strong trading partners to remain powerful.

Hi

As others have said, what comes around, goes around.

GB was not that long ago the superpower and sending in the gunboats.

We were not shy in throwing our weight around.

Then it was the USA throwing it's weight around and the new kid on the block is China.

Wars now are fought digitally and economically.

We are but flies to be swatted.

Just minor point - Australia has not banned Tik Tok, some countries have eg India but not Australia, at least not yet.

It was a call by loony Federal government MP George Christensen, nothing more.

Two fingers was his response to his friends and allies too so no change there.

It is banned by the Australian Defence Force. A blanket ban on security grounds is a real possibility.
