I've noticed a disturbing trend

Right now there are tons of video's teaching photographers how to do things like replace the sky in a photo. To add elements that weren't there to make the photo more interesting.

I don't like it, simply because to me when you change elements like this you no longer have a photograph. You still have art and it was technically made with a camera, however you did not capture a moment in time, you changed it to a fake moment in time. Some of these photos are actually really good, and I am extremely disappointed when I see a Fantastic photo, only to find it really wasn't that fantastic at all. I am not angry with the people that do this. It is their form of expression. I am simply worried that in the future you won't be able to tell if someone is a good photographer or simply a post processing whiz.

Tampering with a photo isn't a true photograph to me.

A photographer should have confidence in his/her photo, if not, take another one to try to improve on it.

100% agree with you Danny! You will demean the integrity of a good shot as well, because people will just assume it is photoshopped or altered in some way.

you are correct but how many photos are corrected in PP that are unnoticeable. Skin blemishes remove - background items deleted- lighting and colour altered, to name but a few.

What about the setting up for a shot? there are specialist food photographers that arrange a food product on a plate or in a bun to make it look good

I worked in advertising for many years, you should see what goes on there. The care taken with displaying food products for press and magazine advertisements would really amaze you!

I've done both of those, however those are small changes and I say small in my case, can't speak for others.. If there is something major I have to change, I simply delete or retake the photo. I was taught there are 2 kinds of photos, good photos, and bad photos. You can make a good photo great, but you can't make a bad photo good. This is changing. Now you can make a totally bad photo good (at least to me seemingly). To me the best photos I've ever taken, and are most proud of were SOOC (straight out of camera). These are very few, but getting better.

The eyes adjust to see all aspects of a scene but a camera sometimes doesn't. Any photo I show is only what my eyes saw. If the camera didn't reproduce the scene as I saw it, then I'll edit the photo so that it does.

Here's a couple of photos that I changed, what I call extremely. I consider them more art than photos. Why because, they are not realistic, but still cool.

I love these arty-fied photos! The colours are pretty. (On my profile I have an album where I did some macro oil & water shots if you want to have a wee look sometime.)

I prefer the one on the left, which I think is the real one, because the other looks false.
In the real photo the man's expression reflects his thoughts & the trees look natural! The other one is nice but not real to me!
