Convid Vaccine. Government playing doctor, making life and death decision

Just read this on Yahoo about the government changing the rules on the issuing of the 2nd jab of the vaccines

https://uk.yahoo.com/news/debate-rag...185914050.html

All of the approved vaccines require the 2nd jab to be taken within a month of the first jab. This comes from data supplied by the manufacturers of the vaccine which stats that for the vaccine to have the success rates that it had in it's ongoing trials, the 2nd jab must be administered within a month of the first jab being given.

The scientific body advising the government Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has written guidance to the government that the 2nd jab should be given 12 weeks (3 months) after the first jab, which completely contradicts and ignores the vaccine(s) makers own scientific data and advice on what's required to make the vaccine effective.

The people at the JCVI seem to think that they know more about the vaccine than the actual people who designed it, made it and ran the trials and the worst thing is, the government has listened to this group JCVI that has got zero knowledge or experience of the vaccines and agreed with their rationale that it will be OK to hold off the second jab for 12 weeks.

The government are playing a very dangerous game here because they believe it is more important to use up the stocks of the 2nd jab to be given to other people so it becomes their 1st jab because it is believed that the makers of the vaccine(s) will not be able to supply enough of the vaccine(s) in time to prevent the spread of the virus from getting worse. Having the 2nd jab could be the difference between life and death for many people and the government has turned round and said 'sorry, no 2nd jab for you'. It's utterly disgraceful in my opinion.

I agree it must be terribly frustrating for those who have received the first dose and would like to see them receive the second jab as recommended. However, the current recommendation reflects just how worried the scientific community are about this new variant. It’s a race against time and another big worry is the emergence of a more deadly strain before vaccination can makes difference. Unfortunately, we are in for a tough few months. Stay safe and let’s hope for the best.

Hi

It is not a decision I would like to take.

It reflects the seriousness of the situation.

It is a sad fact that nobody will know if this is the right decision for some months. I hope the hospital staff, who deal with Covid patients, can get their 2nd jab on time or we will have even more problems if the decision is wrong!

Personally I feel that details of how much vaccine we can get should remain a secret, as this Yahoo link will just make people panic and believe they have Covid, even if they haven't

Lets hope that all workers at Pfizer & Astra Zeneca get their second jab on time, as without them none of us can be saved from the virus!

"white coats were flapping on social media" - love it!

I agree with Swim. It's a desperate measure because of the power of the variant. Not a choice but a reaction to the new situation.

Can't help but wonder if some people might reject having their first jab without a guarantee of getting the second within the original stated timeframe.

I suspect that the problem, once again, is with the process of getting the stuff to where it needs to be.

If so, the Government must get on board with some people who can project manage better.

The current lot fail every time!

Re: Convid Vaccine. Government playing doctor, making life and death decision

Plus those who are willing to volunteer as vaccinators have this to contend with.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...olunteers.html

Retired doctors desperate to roll their sleeves up and help Britain administer 2million Covid vaccines each week to end the continuous cycle of lockdowns by the spring have today hit out at the NHS 'red tape' that requires them to prove they aren't terrorists before they're allowed to chip in.

Ex-medics wanting to be deployed straight onto the frontlines to dish out the jabs have complained of the bizarre requirement to submit up to 21 documents in their application, including evidence that they have had any Prevent Radicalisation training.
Can anyone make sense of this.

I guess the last thing they would need is a terror attack during vaccination. Perhaps they also need to check that nobody applying is "illegal"? I think that many who apply for public facing jobs have to have a CRB check too. What if you go for a vaccination and your vaccinator robs you?
