They are really hardy, there’s quite a sizeable flock in the Wetlands.
Next weekend I’ll try to leave earlier to get better lighting. Not my best attempt at photography I’m afraid

What part of SA are you in Minx, any Swallows/Martins in your area, these are summer visitors to Europe and the UK,

I’m inland - Johannesburg.

Yes, we have those as well. Barn Swallows are very common. Pearl-breasted Swallow and Sand Martin, Common House Martin, Brown-throated Martin, Banded Martin and Rock Martin are common in Southern Africa.
I didn’t see any of those this morning though.

Thanks, they have a long journey ahead, so maybe they leave about now feeding up as they go through Africa.

The iconic Australian Kookaburra is actually a kingfisher.
