Dvd player mystery

I have 2 DVD players both are region #1
I have many DVD movies, all region #1

Problem: Some of the DVD's will play on one player but not on the other. Some of the subtitles will play on one player but not on the other.

I don't understand. That makes no sense to me.

Any idea of why ?

Sorry, can't help. I have a muli-regional DVD player, as I have several American DVD's. I can play any region.
