Re: Have you met anyone famous?
In the 70's I ran the front desk at the Marriott Hotel when is was the only decent one in Cleveland.
At one point we had Muhammad Ali in town for a big fight and he took up two full floors that included family and friends. His wife was on one floor and his girlfriend on another
They didn't eat in our restaurants and his Aunt did all the cooking. Press came from all over the world and I do remember Howard Cosell giving us a bit of a hard time like he did most people.
President Nixon stopped by for two nights and we always had beautiful arrangements we could offer them.
I always urged the girls to mention if someone well know had stayed in the rooms we were offering. A young girl had just started and told someone 'Lassie' had just stayed in the only rooms we had left.....he took them and of course everything was sparkling clean but we all had a good laugh.
We had all the pro sports teams stay when they were in town and even local teams when it was the night before a game. We had a 10pm bed check for them by phone (many of the girls wanted to do it in person
) but never would be let that happen. Alot were in at 10pm and left after the call, some were caught and were in big trouble.
I wish I could remember the name of a basketball player but anyway he came and asked for some change for the cigarette machine and when he put out his hand it looked as big as a parking lot. LOL It was fun and the hockey players were the crazy crazy ones.
