Re: Have you met anyone famous?

Met Tony Blair, John Prescot, John Reid, the late (and great) Donald Dewar and Peter Mandleson as well. Also once met Yul Brynner (in Paris, he was walking down a Boulevard and I saw him and pointed to him, I got a nice smile and a hello from him!

But that is all

Oh, if seeing them counts, I saw Bill Cosby on my way to lunch years ago when our offices were downtown.

Re: Have you met anyone famous?

In the 70's I ran the front desk at the Marriott Hotel when is was the only decent one in Cleveland.

At one point we had Muhammad Ali in town for a big fight and he took up two full floors that included family and friends. His wife was on one floor and his girlfriend on another They didn't eat in our restaurants and his Aunt did all the cooking. Press came from all over the world and I do remember Howard Cosell giving us a bit of a hard time like he did most people.

President Nixon stopped by for two nights and we always had beautiful arrangements we could offer them.

I always urged the girls to mention if someone well know had stayed in the rooms we were offering. A young girl had just started and told someone 'Lassie' had just stayed in the only rooms we had left.....he took them and of course everything was sparkling clean but we all had a good laugh.

We had all the pro sports teams stay when they were in town and even local teams when it was the night before a game. We had a 10pm bed check for them by phone (many of the girls wanted to do it in person) but never would be let that happen. Alot were in at 10pm and left after the call, some were caught and were in big trouble.

I wish I could remember the name of a basketball player but anyway he came and asked for some change for the cigarette machine and when he put out his hand it looked as big as a parking lot. LOL It was fun and the hockey players were the crazy crazy ones.

Re: Have you met anyone famous?

Quite a selection there ..
My small local town has a theater and I have seen (but not met )a few famous people shopping in the town when appearing there. This includes Tom Conti, Juliet Mills and Kate O'mara (who used to be in Dynasty). I once saw Pat Phoenix (who used to be in Coronation street) shopping in a department store in Manchester .

My late husband was a keen golfer and once played in a pro am torament with Adam Faith the pop singer and famous football (his name escapes me, I am not a football fan ). I had met Adam Faith years before at Manchester Championship Dog show, he used to have Afghans.

The actor Tony Booth (Cherie Blair's father who also used to be married to Pat Phoenix) who had a problem with his hands was in the same rehabilitation center as my late husband, .

My goodness to think your late husband played pro with Adam Faith, he must have been great.

Meg, that made me think about this past August. I was about 1 foot from Tiger Woods while her was practicing before the Bridgestone-Firestone tournament in Akron, Ohio but I did not formally meet him. That was the most exciting golf outing, I have ever seen in my life....hotest also with a heat index of 100.

Hi Buzzie I am not a golf fan myself but used to enjoy walking around the courses looking at the wildlife rather than the balls

It was a 'charity do', my husband was a pretty good golfer playing off a 6 handicap .
