Maclaren Buggies

Does any of your family own one of these ?

There have been amputations of kiddies fingers in the USA due to them being trapped in the hinge mechanism.

The company has offered "kits" to modify the hinge to prevent kids fingers being trapped, . . personally I'd tell them to shove the kits, . . why should customers sort their mess out, . . time for a refund methinks.

Here in the UK the manufacturing company has denied any injuries have occurred, . . the BBC did an investigation themselves and discovered there have been 20 incidents.

Maclaren then offered the same kits to customers here.

Re: Maclaren Buggies

What puzzles me is how are the kiddies still in these buggies when they are being collapsed...?

Re: Maclaren Buggies

I saw that on telly the other day and can't understand why the UK manufacturers are dragging their feet and not doing the same as their US counterparts are doing by sending out the safety pack. What are they waiting for - for a kiddy to loose a finger perhaps?

Good points though by Christian and C&D!

Re: Maclaren Buggies

I can't understand this story at all.
I don't think the little ones are in the buggies - I think they are somehow getting their fingers amongst the hinge whilst the buggy is being folded ... which kinda says to me that they are not being properly supervised. I'm not trying to be holier than thou, or say that my kids never suffered any mishap, but everyone knows that you need eyes everywhere and you have to take great care - look after them and yourself.
If the hinge cover doesn't affect operation and are simple to fit then I think they should be fitted as standard - but I don't think anyone should bring a law suit against Maclaren for past accidents - if they didn't know about the probelms how could they remedy it?
And I worry about lawsuits for everything .. and think of accidents like fingers in doors, finding knives etc - you just have to be extra careful with little ones.

Because in the USA they have better and bigger compensation for victims who sue companies, . .

Denis, I bet you are right there. When you go to our phone books, there are more attorneys than physicians?? That certainly is one of the main reasons our health insurance and care is so expensive.
