Because the result is that other than police it is only criminals who have access to firearms. That is EXACTLY what is happening today.

And how will giving the entire population access to firearms solve that problem, Todger? As far as I can see, it would not only encourage the criminals who don't have a gun to get one, but it would also increase the chance of my getting shot by someone who isn't a criminal.
