Re: Mushrooms

I usually wash mushrooms but not always, however I do know that the person meant by washing them changes the texture but once dry they soon recover.

.Personally I never pick mushrooms because I am not confident I can tell edible mushrooms from deadly ones. For example Death Cap mushrooms look pretty ordinary and look very similar to some edible varieties yet if you survive them then a kidney transplant in the minimum you will need.

it is a pity really because Magic Mushrooms are really interesting.

Re: Mushrooms

My mum always peeled mushrooms it was a job I was often given to do. These days I was told that mushrooms we buy from supermarkets are grown in a pasteurised soil so there is no need to peel or wash just wipe with kitchen roll to remove any debris off them.

Re: Mushrooms

Thank you for your answers everyone.
It seems some people wash them, some don't.
Some peel, some don't.

Ah well, we're all still here to tell the tale, so I guess it can't matter that much either way.

Re: Mushrooms

I only buy them from the supermarket so they don't need washing.
Life is too short to peel a mushroom! I think I'd find it difficult too.
