Squirrels.

I thought I'd done a post about squirrels playing in my rose tubs but I can't find it!

Anyway I appealed for a way to deter them & a member on my gardening forum said 'Stick bamboo skewers in the pot'

if it doesn't work they may destroy my roses. Fingers crossed.

Re: Squirrels.

I thought I'd stick my nose in here for fun. We have lots of very cute little marsupials in Australia. Very few of them are pests and just as many are protected and some threatened. But we don't have squirrels. In our travels in Europe and North America we always loved seeing these delightful little creatures. But we understand that you have a different view of them to say the least. We find the nocturnal possums very noisy and invasive at night when they scurry around and make their spooky noises. They get in the rooves and cvause havoc. Wanna swap?

Re: Squirrels.

Hi

We have two types of Squirrels here in the UK.

The Red ones, Native, Protected.

The Grey ones, invasive, not protected.

The Grey ones taste nice, very good eating, the solution is on a plate.

Do the two types mate? Probably not. Just curious. Red and grey kangaroos will mate but only with human intervention I've heard. I've tasted rodent meat that wasn't rabbit or hare. Despite the stigma I have to say it as quite nice. So I'm not surprised that squirrels are tasty.

Re: Squirrels.

I follow this bloke on YouTube. The channel name, Kent Survival, seems quite ironic to me but I like some of the places he visits as I remember them from my youth.

I would imagine squirrel is rather like guinea pig (not that I have tasted either)

The only meat I have tried which was totally inedible was fox which I tried many years ago when I was working as a linesman in the middle of nowhere and we used to fairly regularly shoot our dinner (mostly rabbit or pig)

They're not squirrels, that's a cat, a dog and a bird - different species altogether.

A squirrel looks like this:
