If anyone wants to ridicule Merkel, call her a "world leader" just as Bolsonaro, Orban, Salvini or the Heads of State of some dukedoms on the continent are. Everyone knows that nothing can be further from the truth given the role Germany plays in Europe and internationally. But if you set the bar so high on that name, the easier it will be to make her look silly.
Tbh, I have never understood why she - AFAIK and as intelligent as she may be - has not publicly distanced herself from such labelling attached to her by the media and certain organisations. It simply wouldn't go with her. All the more so because she did that on other occasions with some little sideswipes and a mocking smile which I enjoyed.
The Germans also know that she's anything but not exactly what is commonly understood by a good orator. More recently, though, she was even named the "second most eloquent leader of the world" - by some whereas others conceded that "She is not a great orator, ...". Why the fuss, why the labels? What's the agenda? She's surely not worth it. I wish people would pay less attention.

The turtoise is catching up it seems.
In the past week,*the EU ensured that almost all doses*made for the company in the Netherlands would stay in the bloc, despite the UK having staked its claim to them. Britain had pressed unsuccessfully for a 50/50 split.

In Germany, GPs – who at the heart of the UK’s distribution success – were finally allowed to administer jabs this week, and in April daily doses per 100 people crept ahead of Britain for the first time since any vaccine became available, according to figures tracked by Our World in Data.

France, which began a lockdown amid rising cases at the end of March, has also closed the vaccination gap with the UK, although it is yet to forge ahead. This week, a plant in Normandy for bottling the Pfizer vaccine opened, and the country plans to have seven jab production facilities operating by the end of the year.

Martin McKee, a professor of European public health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said: “The UK has benefited because it started earlier, and we are beginning to see other countries catching up. We also had an exceptional effort in the NHS, but you also have [the question of] how long is that sustainable for.”

But today the UK reaches herd immunity whereas none of the 27 are even close.

The EU has put politics over people time and time again and the conclusion is there for the world to see. Slow uptake, red tape, nationalism, socialism and towards the UK, racism. All the ingredients of fascism, right there, which the EU now unashamedly doesn't even try to hide anymore.

Re: EU About to Block Vaccine For the UK.

Meantime the UK is moving on and offering over-40's the vaccine from tomorrow (earlier than expected) as, The Times says,:
"... supplies are expected to pick up again later this month and health chiefs are now more optimistic that this will allow the vaccination programme to move on to the second phase."

Yes I know it's subscription-only and that you might not be able to access the full thing but there is a free trial for those interested, otherwise what I've posted above gives the general idea.

Hi

Herd Immunity does not apply to all viruses.

Smallpox is a glorious example of that.

Don't forget Solly, UK is now into the lower age groups that are
resisting getting the vaccines, and so less people are showing up
for the jabs ??
There is talk of paying them bribes to take a jab !!

And I'm sure that they'll blame their failings on us in the UK!

If this is the best they can do, I don't see a long term future for their empire.

It does it just needs a higher threshold level of vaccinations.
