Worried about my Hellibore

I bought this Hellebore about 3 weeks ago & put it in its permanent pot.

It doesn't look very well to me. The heads are drooping & the leaf looks in a bad way.

What might I have done wrong & can it be revived?

Re: Worried about my Hellibore

I'm not much of a gardener, but we have hellebores, and they do like to be in the shade. Ours grow underneath other, bigger plants, in a shady part of the garden. Perhaps this one is getting too much sun?

ETA: I think their natural inclination is to droop their heads - all of ours do. They're shy little plants

Re: Worried about my Hellibore

Well, do you know what? I've just googled and discovered that where's best to plant these depends on the variety - some like being in the sun and others like partial or even full shade! Well well well, now I've learnt something new

Re: Worried about my Hellibore

Thanks for the information about drooping heads Bathsheba. Maybe there's hope for it after all.

I was worried because the heads weren't drooping when I bought it from the garden centre...

Re: Worried about my Hellibore

Hi Carol your Hellebore doesn't look too bad, they like a shady, moist well mulched spot .
This is mine which I cut back last summer when it had finished flowering and was looking awful with Helibore black spot . It is doing well now.

Bathsheba I agree about the heads, the trusses of flowers are quite heavy for the stems so they do tend to droop.

Re: Worried about my Hellibore

I don't grow Hellebores, Carol, mainly because I believe they can be a bit toxic to dogs if eaten, and my young Gertie is partial to doing quite a bit of gardening!

However, there is a lot of info here on the RHS website which may help you:
