Deaths BELOW Average ??

Reported on BBC breaking news,
The death rate has fallen below the 5yr national average for the
first time since the start of the pandemic ?
This is despite the backlog of people waiting for urgent treatment
due to lack of NHS capacity ??
Does this mean we are now healthier due to shedding a lot of the
the less healthy individuals that contracted covid ?
In other words, was covid beneficial to society ??

Everything will average out, over a period of time.

Re: Deaths BELOW Average ??

I suspect that many who died of Covid had health problems anyway, so may have died with other problems.

Don't forget that people have been staying home, not working, not travelling so much, not socializing & many other activities have been less.... which makes you wonder how many people would have died whilst travelling, getting illness transmitted from others, accidents at work or even stress from work causing heart problems.... even sports injuries!

We are all going to die one day & if we know how we would avoid it....but sadly none of us can be sure what will kill us... we just have to wait for our turn!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56491532

The UK is marking one year since the first coronavirus lockdown.

On 23 March 2020, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced tough restrictions on people's lives aimed at stopping the spread of Covid-19.

Since then, the UK's official COVID-related death toll has risen from 364 to 126,172 *.
* That's 345 deaths a day.

2020 saw most excess deaths since World War Two

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55631693

The Covid pandemic has caused excess deaths to rise to their highest level in the UK since World War Two.

There were close to 697,000 deaths in 2020 - nearly 85,000* more than would be expected based on the average in the previous five years.

This represents an increase of 14% - making it the largest rise in excess deaths for more than 75 years.

The data is only available until November - so the impact of deaths in December have not yet been taken into account.
* That's 236 deaths a day that were "unexpected".

Hitler's Lufwaffe killed 40,000 UK citizens in 6 years of WWII; Boris Johnson's ineptitude has killed over three times as many in 12 months .....

Here's the link to the thread title:

Covid: Deaths below average for first time since summer

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56496403

Experts say it means the winter wave of Covid deaths has ended and lockdown and the vaccine rollout have saved lives.

In the week up to 12 March, 14% of all deaths involved Covid, compared with 44% at the 22 January peak, Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show.

In January, Covid deaths drove overall mortality in the UK 40% higher than the average seen between 2015 and 2019.

There have been more than 145,000 deaths involving Covid in the UK since the first lockdown, a year ago.

Re: Deaths BELOW Average ??

It's the effect of hibernation mode. There will be a surge when people are allowed out and start mixing again. I'm sure there is data to say that there are fewer STDs and other such conditions too because people don't get the chance to be promiscuous. Post covid there will be a surge in cancer, diabetes and other diagnoses along with communicable diseases.
