A doctor on YouTube is mystified because he’s showing how us to do a simple Vit D level home kit test then sending it to be analysed . He’s been taking very , very large doses of D and was expecting to show us what a really good level he had . Result ,25 . He was more than shocked I can tell you !

Makes you wonder are these supplements all they profess to be .

I don’t know how low it was in figures,I didn’t ask, this was when I went to the Brompton Hospital for an assessment ,to undergo open heart surgery, that is when I discovered I was low in vitamin D, but took no notice.

I’m talking about me..not others, and how it has affected me, with the high calcium level...hence all the tests...will be interesting to see what calcium level is, when I get the results back on Friday.

I asked for a printout is how I know what my blood test results were. "Why? " asked the receptionist . " Because it's my body " I replied .
Didn't you take the prescription Pauline ? Is that why you say it's your own fault?

I will ask for a print out on Friday of my calcium results.

The heart specialist nurse told me it was low ,they never wrote out a prescription, I just ignored what she said, I felt looking back, she didn’t emphasise it enough, or maybe that’s me, not taking responsibility,

I won’t be so stupid again...you have every right to ask for a print out, Zuelka,,.....you’re on the ball more than me.

Re: Ones Own Health.

People always forget about vitamin K when taking vit D. If you don't eat much lettuce or greens you also need K. So it depends on your diet.

I nearly always ask for a copy of results of tests too.
We have every right, as you say Zuleiker.
It saves me remembering, and also gives me a clear comparison if/when the test is repeated at a later date.

I'm really sorry about your dental problems Pauline. I hope your dentist has also referred you to a periodontist and not just fobbed you off with a bridge. What is your diet and exercise regime?

I don't think they test it but if you are taking vit D and don't have a diet with Vit K rich foods then there is a danger of calcium not being absorbed. It's tricky. Maybe you should consult a good nutritionist. It's a shame drs don't take nutrition as seriously as they should. People can go buy vits off the shelf regardless of their health conditions.

I agree with you, Annie.
The way I understand it is doctors are not trained in nutrition though.
All the more reason why they should sent patients to someone who is.

Yes, I think I will consult a good nutritionist, thanks for that advice Annie.
