I had an extraction last January, I didn’t need to ask to see my tooth as the dentist put it on a little ‘plate’ beside me - it looked ok to me.

He should have put it back in that case.

That's good Pauline. It tends to heal up all of a sudden. You suddenly realise that you are chewing on it.
