I'm sure that stems from Henry VIII and the conversion to the Church of England.

The Scots didn't like that.

Strangely, though, although there are now Scots who are both Catholic and Protestant, many of them still resent the English!
Does that go back to the Roman times?

Would one man be able to decide his country,s future today as one man could and did then?
It seems not but times can change.

I'm not sure whether it was JBR who made the original assertion. Perhaps you can discuss Pope with him eh?

Not as far as I'm concerned, he isn't.
I think I suggested that many ordinary people in this country would find it difficult to relate to him and as a consequence he may not benefit from as wide a support as have other PMs.

Anne, I'm surprised at you.

Are you suggesting that the Church of England was founded whilst this country was known as Britannia and was a component part of the Roman Empire?

Oh, but it is still happening.

I meant that perhaps the antipathy goes back to Hadrian's wall (as you said that both Catholics and protestants feel the same). I have a (lapsed protestant) friend who feels superior to the English because his father is Scottish. Despite the fact that his mum was from Lancs!). There seems to be a certain magic in Scottish genes. Did I mention I have relatives in Scotland?
