I can't understand why anyone vandalises anything or riots. How on earth must they have been brought up, certainly badly.

Here''s the thing.

I expect that the people who did this have never truly experienced loss. No matter what, regardless of whether they are caught or not, they have desecrated a memorial.

When they do eventually lose someone they love, the memory of this act will come flooding back. It is unavoidable. This crime against decency - against people in the middle of grieving - will forever soil and cloud their own loss and grief.

Perhaps that will be punishment enough.
