I'm not really sure how it works Amandah - but do think carers need more help as it's not easy or cheap looking after someone full time.

I'm not sure how it works either Amanda, . . if the allowance is paid to the carer and the carer is in full employment and already paying income tax I suppose it's correct.
I'd ask if the allowance could be paid the the person being cared for.

I've been retired for 12 years now and have a fair pension from my last employer, the amount of tax I pay is ridiculous, this includes council tax with no discount.

My OAP pension is included in my total income (which is not in the same league as some of those retired bankers I might add) but even in my old age I still pay through the nose.

It's time pensioners were given reduced rates especially for council tax, I'm paying £120 a month for a 4 apartment semi.

Carers allowance is also taken off any benefits. So because I`m on pension credit, my carers allowance is taken off my pension. I get £1.66p a week above the basic pension as a full time carer.
