I'm making no such claim so don't go there. But miscarriages have happened here and elsewhere.

"On Wednesday, two men were released from prison in North Carolina after DNA evidence overturned their convictions for rape and murder."

Had they not been released would you have pulled that switch? If so, that would have made YOU the murderer.

That is the problem. The "holier than thou" are often all sorts themselves. Who has the right to decide to end a life and how do they know whether it's the right decision? Derek Bentley comes to mind.

Derick Bentley would never have died today times have changed .

Because Derick Bentley died should Ian Brady have lived ?
Causing anguish and terrible suffering on the families he devastated ?
The holier than thou are those who allow heinous proven murders to live while innocents die for want of resources to save them.

There is a good reason that Justice is depicted wearing a blindfold. "Equal justice under the law". This prevents people with highly emotional natures getting carried away with their idea of what punishments should be meted out. Otherwise we'd have the sort of "scavenging" seen in the Handmaid's tale.

Tell me does it give people a warm glow inside to know that Ian Brady lived to a ripe old age ?
Peter Sutcliffe ?
Lee Rigbys killers ?

How exactly does it make them better people ?
They are not running the risks of guarding these criminals
I ask again which one of the goodies is going to care for these highly dangerous evil men in their old age ?
What will you do with geriatric evil murderers when they are 85 and incontinent ?

Answers without evasion would be nice

I think living deprived of liberty and with a mental illness is harder than being put to sleep. But each to their own.

Re: Does being a good human being matter to you?

Some of the arguments against the death penalty appears to be purely based on the reasoning that killers have a right to life. I will respond with why?, they took a life, they have destroyed the victims family, the killer was not thinking of the rights of the victim so why do you say the killer should have rights. The victims family are innocent but yet they suffer a life of pain, should the killers family also not feel the same pain, or again, is it your supposition that in supporting the continued removal of the death penalty, you believe a prisoner about to receive the death penalty has the same, if not more rights than the person they killed?

Or is it due to this 'taking the moral high ground' that stops you believing in the death penalty, in that we shouldn't take the life of another human being, regardless of the heinous crime they committed?

That is my view. We don't have the right to do so. It is not our place.

We send soldiers to kill people who have NOT murdered anyone all the time .
Where does that leave your moral high ground ?
