Re: 103 left

I have tried to avoid the C-word this early, but got a catalogue of Xmas cards in the mail today ... made the mistake of looking at it and saw an absolutely perfect card ... so, sigh. have started .....

Maybe the Government should ban Christmas as a cost saving measure. i can't say that would bother me!

Re: 103 left

I love Christmas, it is one time in every year when some families get together and share life.
There is a lot of love around at Christmas time and people tend to think of others before themselves for a change.

The surprised looks on childrens faces when they open their pressies is so uplifting and pleasing.
Christmas is the time when some older people tend to be remembered as elders and not as money givers.

NO, Christmas is a must for me.

It was fun when our kids were small, and of course the grandchildren enjoy it. I do my bit for them of course, but we prefer to see them on Boxing Day, and spend Christmas Day quietly.

I am fortunate that we get on very well with our children, but a family Christmas can be a very mixed blessing for many families. We had to visit my grandmother every year on Christmas Day when I was a kid. All the extended family were there and the tension in the air was palpable even to us kids.

We once had my in-laws for Christmas it was dreadful, it was NEVER repeated.

Re: 103 left

Qetta, I must admit that during all our family get togethers for Christmas and the New Year ( giant family parties when young) there was never any signs of animosity.
We spent 13years travelling Christmas eve to Swindon to spend time as In-Laws with my daughter.
Never any sign of discontent except when we were leaving.
I guess it is how you spend your childhood that tends to stay with you through life.
The twelve best days of the year are Christmas and the New Year IMO.

Re: 103 left

I used to love christmas but it's not the same now that my daughter is older. I can take it or leave it now.

I will be working over Christmas, we are only closing Christmas Day, we have winter wonderland going on. Its the first time the park has opened over christmas.

Loads of people are Christmas shopping already, and some have said they have finished.

Re: 103 left

I used to do the full monty for our children and grandchildren every year, but since my husband's illness, three days after Christmas in 2006, the season doesn't have the same pleasurable quality. It is just too much hassle!

It does make a difference if you have family. It's so commercialized, I'm always glad when it's over.

Re: 103 left

Christmas is the not the same once the children have left home and after my dad died near Christmas my mum almost banned all celebrations. I still like the time of year, but I dislike fighting my way round the shops and I agree with Dandysmom it is very commercialised. Ho Ho Ho and all that cheap stuff in the shops.

Aerolor, Do your Christmas shopping in the sales after Christmas you dont get half the number of people barging their way through.
Less stress at Christmas time leaves you time to enjoy the feastive season.
I must be a child at heart because I love opening pressies on Christmas morning.
