Dangerous cycling law.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45154708

A new law against dangerous cycling is being considered. It is an issue I feel very strongly about. I hope it is brought in and very soon. There are so many cyclists who don't think the rules of the road apply to them. I have seen them jump red lights, ride down one way streets the wrong way, I was nearly knocked down by one idiot not long ago, doing just that on a narrow road in our village. I also take issue with cyclists who ride up to four abreast not letting cars pass them, this causes frustration and can lead to accidents.

When this law comes in, I hope no one on here asks for a "Backie" coz, as we all know, refusal often offends.

Re: Dangerous cycling law.

Doesn't go far enough, there should be an explicit law banning cyclists from riding on the pavement, with even heavier fines when caught doing so. Cyclists need to be 'registered' and insured, so that anyone injured by a 'careless' cyclist can (a) report them, (b) claim compensation if injured by a 'careless' cyclist. just like any other road user.

Crikey I would go that far .
Sometimes it simply unsafe for them to be on the road cyclist can get quished by a juggernaut .
In many towns pavements double as cycle tracks .

UJ, won't that lead to unscrupulous pedestrians, throwing themselves in front of "Innocent" cyclists?

Unfortunately the law cannot account for all stupids.

Re: Dangerous cycling law.

I have always felt that cyclists should have to take a test, like a driving test, before they are allowed on the road.

Many of them have no idea of the highway code and often do not indicate which way they are turning. I know it sounds trivial, but a momentary mistake by a cyclist & a driver trying to avoid them, can result in the death of an innocent driver who was obeying the highway code.

Everybody using the roads should have to obey the same rules, or be prosecuted.

I think by law cyclists should have to wear high viz jackets and helmets.
