I would be too concerned about what would happen in the Insurer went bankrupt., or sold out to some other company.

I think some sort of Bank savings plan would be safer.

I'm another who will not have a funeral and opt for direct cremation. But can't say I've done anything about it yet as my estate will cover it. Maybe once I move back to the UK (hopefully by the end of this year) I'll look into prepaying it to save my executors the hassle.

I've told my wife she can keep my ashes in an urn on the mantelpiece, she likes the idea.
