Computer battery problem

I have a HP 1 year old HP laptop. Recently I have noticed that even an overnight charge does not last very long. (I'm assuming that if I have turned off the laptop and plugged it in, it will still charge?)

In order to keep it running I must keep it plugged in at all times.

If I unplug it, the screen darkens a tad. Within an hour, I will see a pop-up which says, "Your battery is running low"

If I ignore that, it will shut itself off within 10 more minutes.

Is that normal for a 1 year old laptop ?

Can there be another reason for this ?

Thank you

Sorry can't solve your problem Bakerman, but I would never buy another HP as long as I live, good luck with yours

Re: Computer battery problem

A lot depends on much you use it, Bakerman. If it is your main computer then - yes - the battery will wear out quickly, though only 1yr does seem a bit odd. Probably cheaper to buy a new laptop than a new battery and, like Basser, avoid HP!

Re: Computer battery problem

you might find a third party battery is half or even quarter the price of a HP one.

Re: Computer battery problem

Try re-calibrating the battery. Google for programs.

Re: Computer battery problem

My HP is six years old and will still hold a charge for about an hour and a half.

HP battery should longer than one year. HP has a product and battery recall http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-information/recalls.html check the list see if your laptop is on the list. If it is get a hold of HP support and they take it from there..
I did this back some years ago with HP and there was no charge..
