My top bugbear in all this is the ridiculous demonisation of carbon dioxide - a precious gas without which the earth would die. Without carbon dioxide there would be no oxygen and no plants and therefore no animals (including humans). The solution to the "carbon" issue is pretty simple - plant more trees, more plants and stop concreting over every square inch of the earth's surface.

Re: Climate change poll

Two factors @ work here :
1- Natural evolution of climate change, which has taken place periodically throughout the history of the planet, though this process usually occurs over thousands of years.
2-Human influenced climate change, which has been brought on by the human species...ie….burning of fossil fuels..... over population......destruction of our forests, just to name a few.

And, I would suggest that, if item 2 is the one which might be fixed, then the "learned" should start with a concentrated move to get China to follow suit.

If they could convert China, I think everyone might well follow.

But if they cannot influence China, then lecturing, demonstrating against, us might be just a waste of time.

No. EVERY reduction in burning fossil fuel is worthwhile. Even not lighting a match is worthwhile.

Likewise EVERY step to reduce pollution be it a toxic mateial or thing that disrupts natural cycles must b taken.

Restoring natural carbon sinks such a trees is vital step along the path to repairing the horrendous damage hat mankind has done, it is NOT the solution to our ongoing pollution.

Re: Climate change poll

EVERY prediction by the "experts" over the past 30 years have been wrong but somehow they just keep repeating the same info and hope people don't look any further back than the last 7 second soundbite. Do a Google search and you'll have to go past that impassible barrier of page 2 and beyond before you start to find their original predictions.

We were told in the 1980s and 90s that NYC would be underwater by 2014, in 20 years that there would be no snow on any mountain besides the highest peaks ever again, every glacier would be gone, islands would disappear, that the global temperatures would increase cumulatively as much as 6 degrees Celsius from the 1990s. None of this has happened, so they just wash, rinse and repeat the same info this round with an even longer time-span so people won't be around to call them on their failures, like they are able to today. Furthermore, the excuses on why these solid predictions failed to come through are even more unbelievable...like the most recent explanation for the failure of the rising oceans to flood the world's coasts... Big Climate's answer... The Ocean Floor is Sinking...

Data has been manipulated, heat sensors placed in questionable locations (next to A/C exhausts, in the middle of blacktop parking lots, etc) while others that didn't conform with desired results removed, deleted or ignored. The repeated exposure of Big Climate corruption via released interoffice memos and emails that confirm the above information has been conveniently ignored and brushed under the rug. Worst-case scenarios are turned into gospel, quietly couched by the word "could" via the experts and ignored by their minions; the media. Furthermore, signs that disprove the scenario are turned around to be proof of their theory (the calving of glaciers show that the glacier is actually growing, not shrinking).

Their most recent attempt has been to scare the grade-school children with the fallacy that all the polar bears will go extinct, even though there are more of them today than at any time of measured history. Big Climate knows they can't win in garnering support with the adult population, so they plan to go after the kids via indoctrination.

Now, Big Climate has broke out the big guns and put a little girl at the forefront of the movement as a human shield to scare away any detractors or opposition. Now they can claim those that don't agree with them are just evil cruel people who enjoy picking on a poor, defenseless little girl.

The most egregious crime is that most of the policies recommended and supported by Big Climate actually create more Greenhouse Gasses and work against the announced agenda of saving the planet. Do your own research, don't believe me. Ethanol and bio-fuels actually create more pollution and carbon, in both their manufacture and use, than using the standard winter gasoline standards. Along with that, the "Summer Blend" that we are forced to use actually creates more smog and is detrimental to air quality standards. Recycling products actually uses more energy and resources than making new products from scratch. Finally, the utilization of Daylight Saving Time actually is responsible for a 1% increase of energy usage during the summer and 2-4% increase in the fall, since temperature and not lighting, is the driving factor of home energy usage today. Furthermore, since 1986, the single most driving factor for the increase of gasoline usage has been attributed to DST with more people being out and about, rather than staying home, enjoying the later available light in the evenings.

Re: Climate change poll

Mick B and PSXtreme, two of the best post I have ever read concerning global warming and climate change, your posts are a breath of fresh air (pardon the pun) thank God for some common sense at last.......

Instead of asking all the questions included in the poll, why didn't you just ask one question: Do you believe all the rubbish, propaganda, and brainwashing that is spewed out daily by the media and especially the BBC.

(1) Is the world getting hotter....?
Do you mean Yesterday? last week? Last year? Since you have been a resident on this planet? The climate is calibrated over tens of thousands of years, not just because we have had a couple of snow free winters.....

(2) Will it cause suffering and harm.....?
Ever since there has been a 'Human Race' there has been suffering and harm. What's new! If we continue to live in inhospitable places there will be suffering and harm. The Earth is constantly changing, places that were once habitable will become barren, and places that were barren will become habitable, we must adapt, it's what we are good at. It would be very nice if the climate would remain constant for our benefit, but unfortunately it won't.

(3) Is it caused by human activity....?
Locally and in overpopulated areas man's activity has created pollution and waste affecting life, health, and nature, The careless disposal of waste, especially plastic will contaminate the natural world. The destruction of the rainforests will change weather patterns....See question (2) about places becoming uninhabited and barren.....The Earth will carry on, it's bigger and tougher than you think, and there are forces at work that we can only imagine that are responsible for our climate.

(4) Would anything convince you one way or another...?
You mean like 'Anybody' not 'Anything' because I won't be around long enough to see the climatic changes that the 'Save The Planet' brigade are forecasting; They can't even forecast the weather more than a week in advance. The BBC and David Attenborough are not God!

(5)Is there anything we can do to improve the climate...?
Don't be silly!
Locally we can stop producing so much waste and pollution and make it more healthy for both us and the natural world around us.

Because it's the usual response when you've run out of excuses.

No excuses, simple facts that are not understood and so rejected.
